On a Serious Note
Yesterday I attended a funeral for my close friend's step-dad. It's been awhile since I have been to one...since my grandfather passed away a few years ago. However it got me to thinking on how short life is and how we really do not know when it is our time to go or our precious loved ones. A few days ago I was just watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition where a 16 year old died because she lost control of her truck on a straight road while she was texting. How sad is that? I mean the end of your life because of a text message? The mother was actually the first one on the scene. I can't imagine the devastation she must have felt when she saw that truck. So I know I'm usually not one for posting serious posts on this blog, but I felt the need after yesterday. Make sure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you because you never know when it will be the last time you get a chance.

It's Finally Friday
Sorry I've been off the map for a few days...but between my computer crashing, trying to back up all my pics, and taking care of little boy I've just been all over the place. We are going to make our second attempt to get Nolan's 6 months pics (now 7 month pics but who's keeping count?) today so let's hope the weather cooperates. If we can't do it today, he is going to grow out of those cute outfits I bought him! I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend with family and friends...make sure to take a break and relax or you might end up with this face:

Must-Haves Baby Addition
I've read a lot of recent blog posts about baby items that they strongly recommended or couldn't live without. So that got me to thinking...what did I find to be a must-have as a first-time mom? So here's my list (whether you really wanted to know or not :)
1) Lansinoh Lanolin Cream-
This was definitely a life saver for me. I really thought I would die after every time I breast fed. Thankfully this cream helped me through the first month of agony until my breasts were used to it. Don't listen to what the books say...that it would only hurt if your baby was latching on incorrectly. WRONG...it hurts like heck for the first few weeks!
2) Gilligan & O’Malley Nursing Bras-
I ordered these online from Target and must say that I have been pretty pleased with them. Some of those nursing bras are so ugly and give you what I call "unaboob." This one doesn't have an under wire (which you definitely don't want while nursing), but it still gives you a normal bra shape so you can actually wear them under clothes and outside the house.
3) Tommee Tippee Bottles-
I was very worried about starting Nolan on a bottle and then have him not want to direct breastfeed. These bottles are supposed to be a slower flow and similar to a breast. Nolan had no problem going from the breast to the bottle or vice versa. I really like these bottles and highly recommend them for anyone even if you aren't breastfeeding. They are really easy to hold because they are short and wide.
4) NUK Pacifiers-
I was so scared to use a pacifier all due to being told that the baby could have "nipple confusion." We held out for 3 weeks until I finally decided that Nolan needed a some soothing that only a pacifier can bring. My mother-in-law had bought these NUK pacifiers, and they were a huge hit. We had no confusion, and it helped mommy to not be a human pacifier. I really liked the NUK brand due to the fact they go up towards the top roof of the baby's mouth which is also supposed to be the same as when they are breastfeeding. I do own some other pacifiers that are just straight, and they always end up falling out a lot easier.
5) Cradle & Lamb Swing-
I didn't own a swing at first. I thought man I won't spend that kind of money on that nor do I want to take up precious space in my house. Well after some convincing from a few friends who saw I needed some relief from a baby that didn't want to be put down I finally purchased this one. I thought this swing better do a song and dance for the money. Well at first I couldn't put Nolan in the swing without him absolutely losing it. I'm like what a waste of money...I thought this swing was supposed to be a miracle worker. Then one day...it happened. He fell asleep in the swing! After that day, this swing became my best friend. It allowed me to put my baby down without him crying. That is when I knew that this swing was completely worth its weight in gold.
So there's my list...I have many more items I could add but this post is getting too long for my taste. Just some food for thought for those who might be in the market for these items!

Could It Be?
There Is No Place Like Home
We had a successful trip to my parents' house this weekend without any major meltdowns or traffic issues. We actually even maneuvered around a wreck on the interstate by catching it early enough so that we took an exit to get off on a side road. Crisis averted! Here are a few things I learned while I traveled with my husband and 7 month old:
*Entertaining a baby in a car for almot 2 hours is E-X-H-A-U-S-T-I-N-G! Luckily it distracted little one from meltdowns...or the fact that he is so OVER the carseat.
*I am so glad that baby boy has his own room. I know, I know he was actually in our room for months in his pack'n'play. It's actually hard to remember those days which is crazy since it wasn't that long ago. When we go traveling, and we stay in the same room with him I hear every move or moan he makes. Not to mention, I am afraid to move in fear that the bed will creak. Do not wake the monster!
*Speaking of beds...boy do I miss my own bed. There is nothing like coming home to my own bed and pillows. I sleep like a rock that first night home. I think Nolan felt the same way...he missed stretching out his crib. In the pack'n'play he kept pushing on the sides or scratching on the sides making an annoying sound that woke me and him up.
*Visiting family is not relaxing for me. I know that sounds crazy and believe me I am actually a really laid back person. However, I just find myself worrying about little boy and if he is going to have a meltdown because he hasn't had a nap and the fact that my mom just keeps passing him to person to person. Thankfully, he was a good sport and used his baby charm on them all. I did have to interrupt a few times because I knew if that boy didn't get a nap we would all pay for it later. Once that little whine starts you better listen and put him down unless you want to see the monster.
*My house is WAY too quiet without my dogs. My in-laws are actually watching our two fur babies, and it just doesn't seem right when they are not here. Our home would not be complete without those rascals!
*Why do you have to pack so much stuff for something that is only 16.5 lbs? It seems ridiculous that you have to pack so much stuff for such a small being.
Overall it was a good trip, but I am glad to be home and back to normalcy. Or whatever you call life with a teething 7 month old. Happy Monday...just think it's Memorial Day Weekend in a few days!

TGIF!
I've had a busy Friday, and it's not even noon yet! Here's what I've been up to this morning:
*Washed clothes and diapers
*Made some baby food-peaches this time YUM!
*Washed dishes
*Packed for visiting my parents
*Actually got myself ready...including put on makeup! (I know hard to believe)
*Packed up dog stuff
*Cleaned my bedroom
*Read some blogs, made some comments
Oh yeah...and of course taken care of the little one...you know the usual feed, change diaper, put down for a nap, play...then repeat.
I still have these items to complete:
*Buy more disposable diapers for trip
*Buy dogfood...poor things won't have anything to eat!
*Might need to eat lunch?
*Pack all baby stuff which might take the whole afternoon!
Shoot...I'm just exhausted reading all that! I guess I've been pretty productive. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sensational 7 Months!
We had our first Mother's Day where you were so thoughtful and bought your mommy a much needed spa day!

We also went on our second visit to your baby friend Ethan.
We celebrated your first Easter where the Easter bunny was very good to you!
You weigh about 16.5 pounds and measuring over 27 inches in length. You are wearing mostly 6 months and 6-9 months clothing still. You're just the cutest little thing and when we are out and about everyone says you are such a calm baby! Little do they know! :) You love getting out and going on new adventures. I can't believe my little boy is over half way to a year old! You are such a blessing to us. Happy 7 months little guy...Mommy and Daddy love you very much!

A Positive Outlook This Tuesday
As I told you guys before, I am a little domestically challenged. However, there are a few things I do as a SAHM that makes me feel like I am a good mommy:
1) I love that I use cloth diapers. Even though it causes more laundry and I have to spray poop in the toilet I always smile when I see all those bright colored diapers drying on my washing machine. It just makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my little baby!
2) I enjoy making my own baby food. Not to mention I get a few tastes of the food as I am making them! They are always so yummy, and it makes me feel good that I am providing good nutrition for my baby. I might not be making the $$$, but at least I am keeping his belly full!
3) I am blessed to have a good milk supply and to be able to still be breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not easy by any means, so I am thankful that I am still able to provide this "liquid gold" to my little boy.
4) I am glad that I am getting out and exercising at Stroller Strides. Sometimes I barely make it to class depending on how the morning has gone, but once I am there I feel better about myself. I know that Nolan enjoys being outdoors and seeing the other kids/babies. I can't wait until he can actually "play" with the other kids!
So I might not be Miss Suzy Homemaker, but I do try my best in the things that I can do. Here's to having a positive outlook this Tuesday! : )

A Tribute...
After being at work all day, my husband came home to what I like to call the "never-ending whiny sound" that had taken my house hostage. Most of the time Nolan is a great baby, but right now we are going in and out of the teething phases. We'll be great for about a week, and then like later today he started drooling uncontrollably and wanting everything to go in his mouth accompanied by this whiny cry that just gets underneath my skin. Anyhow, I hadn't really told my husband what kind of day I had experienced, but he probably figured it out from my disheveled appearance. Without even asking for some assistance, my husband came to my rescue to entertain the little monster for most of the evening. This allowed me to regain my sanity and to make some of Nolan's baby food (sweet potatoes and yellow squash if you were wondering), eat dinner, and even clip some coupons. I know that after a long day especially on a Monday the last thing he probably wants to come home to is this unfavorable environment...heck I would just keep on driving if it was me. However, he did what any good dad would do and tried to make his little boy feel better. It didn't take him long until he had Nolan laughing and smiling. So here's to you oh dear husband...for lending a helping hand in a time of need...(so that I don't lose my mind) and for being a great dad!

Ahhh...Relaxation
Thanks to my very loving son ***with a little help from my husband***, I received a spa day for Mother's Day. So this is me today....
Isn't that little boy just so thoughtful? :) He knew Mom needed some relaxation time!

Let the Games Begin!
Looks like someone has figured out how to open the drawer of the TV stand...

Baby proofing might be a necessity sooner than I thought!
(Also I am still waiting for my post from yesterday to show back up in blogger...since they are having technical issues. Has your posts shown back up yet?)
