The Beach Days

We are sadly back from our week of being beach bums. We had a fabulous time minus Conley's teething, his little bit of a cold, and his not so fun bathroom issues. But other than that he did pretty well under those circumstances.

Nolan was fearless about the ocean and if you knew him this is not like him.  He is usually more cautious and weighs his options.  He had no fear and jumped right into the water chasing the waves. I really had so much joy just watching him being a kid.  He was just so happy and having so much fun.  If we all could capture that joy, the world would be a much better place.

We went to Kiawah Island, South Carolina which is where we also went last May.  This is Nolan's third visit to the beach, and every time he loves it more and more.  They also have three awesome pools and one that is more like a mini-water park with a big slide and water features.  Both boys had so much fun in the pools.

We rented a condo right on the beach because one thing I have learned is that when you have kids you need easy access to get back to the room.

We rode bikes over the island, and one night the in-laws watched the boys while the husband and I headed to Charleston to hit up the outlets and to go out for dinner.  We dined at Magnolias which is our second time there.  We also lucked out with it being Charleston Restaurant Week where certain restaurants participate with a fixed menu price for a three course meal.  Magnolias did not disappoint!  We truly love Charleston and can't wait to go back to visit the city.  We went in 2009 with some friends, pre-kids, and had a wonderful time.  The city has so much to see and so much good food to eat!

Have you been to the beach this summer?

We LOVE the beach! We were only able to go once this year, but that's ok, we had a great time!

Kind of sad to see summer go but more than ready for cooler weather!

  4. What fun! JDaniel would live full time at the beach if he could. Digging in the sand and chasing waves looks like something your guys loved too.

  5. I haven't been to Charleston in years now, but I thoroughly enjoyed it when I went. You were wise to pick a condo to stay in during your beach time!

  6. My husband doesn't like the beach, because of the sand. Hehe. Kinda can't get around the sand at a beach, right? So most of the time we vacation in the mountains, to enjoy cooler weather (so hot here in New Orleans!)... but I want my son to get some exposure to the sand and sun. Sometime this week, I'm going with my son and parents to the beach, just for a quick visit. Any tips on bringing a 6 month old to the beach?

  7. Sounds & looks wonderful! We spent last week at the beach as well. Emerald Isle, NC, with friends and also beachfront (a must with small kids!). Such a fun relaxing week and perfect weather. Bummed to be back to reality today. *sigh* Until next summer ...

  8. aww... my dream vacation...a place right on the beach! I have friends that go down to SC every summer and they keep telling us We Have To Go. Seeing these great pics: I agree!! :)

but we did manage quite a lot of beach time this summer too. I know people don't associate Canada with beaches, but we do live near a major river and it has beautiful sandy beach. Also, camping in the Provincial Parks as we do ensures some beautiful clean lakes and sandy beaches too.
And I could watch them play in the water all day long. no problem.

  9. We did go to the beach twice, and the second time was cool and cloudy the whole time! And Des was totally teething on the trip. On the last night, he woke up hourly, and he hasn't done that since...ever... Anyway the next morning he finally got his first top tooth!

  10. It looks gorgeous there! And you all look gorgeous there! And how smart it rent a place near by the beach - I know my kids and I always have to go back to our house for something when we go to the beach here! And I'm dying to get to Charleston. Hopefully some time in the next year! Welcome back!

Yep, we sure did go to the beach this summer but when you only live an hour from the coast it is pretty easy to do
