| What I wished my dorm room looked like...a girl can dream, right? |
I bet you thought I was going to say I am going back to school however I am not. Yesterday I was at Bed Bath & Beyond...or Triple B as I call it and it was a mad house! So many parents were out shopping with their future college students. I had to smile to myself because I remembered many, MANY years ago going with my mom to pick out my stuff for my dorm room. I love all items meant for dorm rooms from the cute pencil holders to the cute comforters to the matching rugs...I HEART them all. Yes I am that NERD! I did not have an all decked out dorm room unfortunately because we didn't have the money but that apparently didn't stop my love for purple. I pretty much did my whole room in a light purple which is funny because now not a single item in my house is purple. I remember my mom and I bought a mini fridge on discount because it had a small little dent on the side. I had the oldest computer on the planet but that didn't stop me from being on AOL instant messenger non-stop (this is the same reason I claim not to be on twitter in fear of creating the same addiction.)
I was so excited to start school, but as my parents drove off I found myself trying to hold back the tears. I knew a new chapter of my life was about to begin...and I wasn't sure if I was excited or scared. Either way I knew things were about to change and nothing would be the same. I was officially a big girl now.
Do you have fond memories of going back to school?
Ok, I have to admit, that IS a really cool college room! I didn't live in a dorm. I went to a commuter college - it was close enough to the suburbs that students lived with their parents and drove in to the college classes. It means that I missed out on a lot of the "college atmosphere" that most colleges have, but I enjoyed it.... and I enjoyed the comforts of home too :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness - reading this just brought back so many memories for me of going away to college. I loved all of the matchy matchy dorm room stuff and I bawled when my mom hugged me goodbye(as did she and apparently for half of the ride back home - according to my brother). "Wide Open Spaces" by Dixie Chicks was uber popular and my mom told me that song made her think of me...ha!! Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI moved into my dorm room and learned that it didn't have air conditioning. I got a floor fan as soon as I could.
ReplyDeletewhen i went away to school - I cried HARD! It was the best thing for me though. I grew leaps and bounds in my newfound independence.
ReplyDeleteYou are wise to stay off of Twitter. I saw a bunch of college stuff at Target and it brought back memories too. I was so scared that first night--my roommate never showed up and I was all alone, away from home! It was awful.
ReplyDeleteOk and we were just barely getting email when I went away to college, lol!
I loved going to school...except for the moving part!! I lived on the 2nd or 3rd floor every year and that was miserable!!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about back to school! I loved that my mom drove me up and helped to create a cute dorm room! But I bawled when she left! After that first year though, it was nothing but excitement to get back to friends and college fun.
ReplyDeleteI had horrible memories of going back to school. Up until 6th grade my mom used to pick out my clothes for the first day of school and in the 5th grade, she made me wear a bright green shirt and brown pants and everyone said I looked like a freakin' tree.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah...needless to say, when they dropped me off at the dorms for college, I wasn't exactly shedding tears!
Love that you refer to Bed, Bath and Beyond as the Triple B!!!!
I was homesick, but I had my own apartment so it wasn't nearly as bad as if I had been living in the dorms. I also had a car and a job, so I felt ok about it.
ReplyDeletei LOVE back to school time. (though not the crowds!). The new school supplies are what makes me smile. I worked retail in college, and loved organizing the crayons and makers! ooh! time to go shopping!
ReplyDeleteNo fond memories of school except for friends. Don't know I would ever get through school without friends. That is a dream dorm room indeed - one that I can only dream to have.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE back to school stuff!!! I have such a hard time resisting the cute. matching office supplies for my office here and at work!!
ReplyDeleteFun memories! I moved each year in school from the dorms to apartment to apartment so we always had fun doing the Target run and buying the new shower curtain, rugs etc. Good times!
ReplyDeleteThinking about BBB makes me want to redo my bedroom now!
ReplyDeleteI always had first-day-of-school butterflies, even in college! Yup, I was in Target and the back to school isles were filled with stuff too!
ReplyDeleteMemory lane...I cried too, emotional time for sure! Wish my dorm room looked like that!
ReplyDeleteI never had the dorm room experience.
ReplyDeleteTwitter is totally addicting but it's so fun.
You sound EXACTLY like me! From the love of nerdy organizational supplies to the color purple! And yes, the AOL instant messenger addiction to the tears I had to choke back when my parents first dropped me off at school for the first time. I think if we went to school together we would have made great friends! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember being so excited when we bought everything for my dorm room, too! I chose neutrals so I wouldn't get tired of bright colors in the teeny tiny room. I loved being at college with the freedom and the staying up til all hours on AIM and eating at our then-ranked #1 in the country dining halls! oh college. I would never wish to be back though!
ReplyDeleteI loved shopping for dorm stuff when I left for college. I went with blue and white as the colors for most of my stuff. It was so so fun :)
ReplyDeleteI was terrified of my freshman year but every year after that I LOVED school!
ReplyDeleteI live in a college town & I get all nostalgic every August seeing all the students coming back for the school year. Makes me wish I could be on campus again!
I never had a dorm room experience, but in some ways I never wanted it either. I enjoyed the comforts of home :)
ReplyDeleteI heart school supplies. The new pens, the fresh notebooks, all the cute folder and binder options. I get giddy every year shopping with my kids. And of course I have to buy myself note pads and organizers and such.
