And while most the time, I am ok with this because it's just something I have learned to accept.
However this past weekend, my husband coordinated with my mother-in-law to watch BOTH boys overnight. (Conley has only had one night away from me while my husband watched him at the house.)
He did this so I finally could get my master bedroom makeover that I have wanted for so long. Every room in the house had been updated before ours. So I was so excited to see the transformation. While he painted the ceiling and prepped the walls, I went shopping for new curtains, bedding, and accessories.
I found some curtains at World Market that I absolutely LOVED and knew they were the ones. We also have an arch window which is weird about curtain lengths. We decided to make the jump to putting the curtain rod above the window, and I am so glad we did. It really lengthens the wall and makes the room seem larger. We painted the walls a gray/brown (Frappe if we are getting technical), and I couldn't be more in love. We also rearranged our furniture, and I just love the openness it created. I also finally have canvases of my babies on the wall!
I took these with my phone, so please excuse the lighting. Once we completely accessorize I will take photos with my real camera. We are doing new bedding, more of a gray/brown color once I find it. But loving the orange accent pillow I found!
Is your bedroom styled the way you want it?

I like it. My bedroom. Plain and fine for now. But when we move, I plan to jazz it up.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of things I'd like to do with our bedroom...first step is getting all of the toddler clutter out. It seems everything finds a new home if Addison picks it up so there are books and baby doll pieces all over.
Yea!! What a great surprise. Love the curtains! I am looking for some for my bedroom, I will have to try World Market, we have tall windows so I am having trouble finding ones I like long enough. Love love that wall saying- where did you get that, or did you make it? I am in the process of redoing my bedroom and just painted our nightstands and will be sharing when it is all done too :)
ReplyDeleteLove that sign! Cute!
ReplyDeleteOh my word the room turned out great!! You guys did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteGood for you doing something for YOU! I love it:)
ReplyDeleteYour room looks fabulous and to answer your question, no, our bedroom looks terrible! We still have the same furniture from college, 20+ years ago. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I'm glad you are putting yourself first for once. :)
ReplyDeleteI am in a temporary living situation, but I can't wait to decorate a house again! The bedroom is such an important space. I'm glad you had a chance to decorate it they way you wanted.
ReplyDeleteNot yet.. we just switched bedrooms over the summer and we still haven't finished transforming ours. It's nice, but could be so much better.
ReplyDeleteI have hardly blogged this week - my own or visited others until today, I missed all my exercise activities.....I may have skipped a few meals even come to think of it --- All because I am also in the middle of a room makeover!!
ReplyDeleteOf my daughters who share a room. And finally got bunk beds.
Also, figured since all the paint stuff was out; might as well freshen up my boy's walls too.
That should answer your question about mom's coming last....haha. Our master has never been done since we moved in 9 years ago. And I Loathe it now.
Mom's room is definitely next!!
(although secretly - it's been a lot of fun doing a very girlie pink bedroom.)
I feel like I have been putting myself dead last a lot especially lately. And our bedroom? Also the last to have anything done to it. Still don't know when.....
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic!! :) Love it! I actually mostly like our bedroom...it is not exactly how I want it, but it is close enough for me!-Ashley
ReplyDeleteHooray for nights off and redecorated rooms :)
ReplyDeleteThose canvases are beautiful! I'm excited to see the whole room finished. I remember the excitement of completing a home project. It feels pretty darn good!
ReplyDeleteLove your curtains and canvases of your babies! So nice you got to enjoy doing what you love and fill your own space, just the way you like it.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are gorgeous! My room desperately needs a makeover. The curtains and bedspread are the colors I love (brown and sage with accents of burgundy) but the room itself is not living up to its potential. I can't wait to see it when it is completely done. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a new - non decorated - house, and these items are gorgeous! We don't have a World Market store by me though :(
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteWe finally got bedroom furniture that I like this summer, though our comforter is old and ugly. And our room needs decorated!
Looks beautiful! Can't wait to see more photos. Our master bedroom is definitely on the back burner as we work on project after project in fixing up the foreclosure we bought last year. We also have the arch window and I'm leaning toward hanging the curtains high enough to cover it when closed. Just have to get some LONG curtains … and make a decision on what color scheme I want to go with so I can find some! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have number of windows that need treatments.
ReplyDeleteYay for you! It looks great! I wish we had parents close to take the babies over night. Mama needs some sleep.
ReplyDeleteOur bedroom is pretty much styled the way I want it. I just need to get some more things on the walls and keep my kids toys out. LOL!
LOVE!
ReplyDeleteWe just did the same thing this past summer...FINALLY painting the walls (a cool grey)with new curtains and bedding. But then stopped...need to finish the accents! It feels so calming when you are able to sleep in a "finished" room, doesn't it?
My bedroom is totally my sanctuary at the end of my day ... I love the sense of calm.
ReplyDeleteMakeover in a night - you guys could rent yourselves out ;)
I love the color on the walls and yes, your curtains are gorgeous! It's SO fun to shop for home stuff. So glad you finally got to make over YOUR space! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks so lovely!
ReplyDeleteNow I what to makeover my bedroom! :)
I love the updates you've done to your room! I don't have kids so I can't speak from my own experience about moms finishing last, but from what I've seen from my own mom and other mothers I look up to, you are absolutely right! I'm glad you could take some time to do some shopping and decorate your room like you wanted :)
